How to Maintain Good Health?

Making health choices every day will keep your body and mind in good condition. It could also prevent chronic health conditions.

Here are a few suggestions to maintain good health:

Eat a well-balanced, low-fat diet with lots of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Choose a diet that’s low in saturated fat and cholesterol, and moderate in sugar, salt, and total fat.

Be physically active for 30 minutes most days of the week. Break this up into three 10-minute sessions when pressed for time. Healthy movement may include walking, sports, dancing, yoga, running, or other activities you enjoy.

Exercise is known to activate endorphins that boost your mental well-being. It also helps reduce stress. Relaxation exercises such as deep breathing or meditation can reduce stress as well as talking to trusted family members and friends. Many find interacting with their faith community helpful in times of stress.

Get enough sleep and rest. Most adults need 8 hours of sleep every night. Keep your curiosity alive. Lifelong learning is beneficial to your health.

Establish an ongoing relationship with a suitable healthcare provider. Get an annual wellness exam and follow the provider’s recommendations for screening tests based on your family health history, immunizations, mammograms, etc. Bring a list of your health concerns with you to your annual wellness exam and ask your provider questions.
